Response to In-class Discussion on Manners of Dying

In class, we talked about "Manners of dying". When I read the story for the first time, I think it is very boring. There is nothing interesting to describe one people's death for so many times. But after we discussed in class, and I read the story for several more times, I think it is a good and clever story.

There are nine letters in the whole paper. Each tories gives a different way to death, and presents the different personality of Kevin Barlow. In one story, Kevin Barlow had a rich and good supper, talked a lot with the father, then he “The trap was released and your son Kevin Barlow died painlessly.” In this vision, Kevin's mother would be a lot comfortable and happy. Her son had a nice supper, talked with father and he died painlessly. Her son may could go to heaven. And from this vision, we can see that Kevin is a religion people, and he felt guilty. He faced death peacefully. But in other vision, Kevin refused to eat supper and talk to father. And
“The trap was released and your son Kevin Barlow died painlessly.” When Kevin's mother read this, she would be very sad. This story gives us an idea about the importance of information delivery.

  1. So, you mean we could give prisoners' family wrong imformation in order to reduce their pain. I disagree with it. I think family have rights to know the truth even it is not good.
