Submission Guidelines

The Lying Cotton prefers submissions to come through email. Our email address isthelyingcotton@gmail.com

Please read the following guidelines before you go to that address to send us your work.

The Lying Cotton was just founded. We are really looking forward to receiving your contributions, for adding more creativeness and energy into our brand-new online journal. We welcome submissions of a wide category of works including poetry, fiction and nonfiction and artistic works. Your work will be carefully read and discussed by our editors and we will offer remuneration if it is accepted for publication. We really appreciate your paying attention to The Lying Cotton.

First, please read what we’ve mentioned before our submission rules and preference and consider what is really attractive to us. If you are confident and willing to share your excellent and unique work, please do not hesitate to submit your work to us.

Poetry: Please send no more than six poems at a time so that it will be easier for us to manipulate the selection process. Please use single-space format in your document and also compose your poem as you want it to appear on our journal. Finally, please put the six poems in one document, thanks.

Fiction: Please use double-space format in your document so it will be easier for our editors to follow. At present, we temporarily pay more attention to short stories. Long novel will be acceptable when we get well started and get more experience from running this online journal.

Nonfiction: Please use double-space format in your document so it will be easier for our editors to follow.  At present, we temporarily pay more attention to personal essays. Whatever the topic is and whatever you want to express, we would like to see creative and unique ideas. But pay attention, we don't accept Unsolicited book reviews and criticism.

Visual Art Design: We are open for just about any visual arts (except videos): photographs, digital arts, paintings, and etc. You may want to attach a short paragraph explaining the idea or the concept of your works. Please make sure you are sending us the original copy of your works, which has the maximum image quality. By submitting your works, you have authorized us to publish your works in our magazine.


General Guidelines

Send one prose piece or one to six poems at a time, and please submit genres separately.
The Lying Cotton Review will not accept previously published work.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable so long as they are indicated as such and we are immediately notified upon acceptance elsewhere.
Translations are welcome so long as permissions have been obtained from the author.
Online submissions are strongly preferred, though The Lying Cotton Review will accept submissions by regular mail; mailed submissions may take one week to process and two weeks to decide whether work will be published.
We are able to publish long works in all genres, but query The Lying Cotton Review before you send a prose piece over 8,000 words or a poem exceeding 10 pages.

Submitting Online

All submissions will be accepted through email: lyingcotton@gmail.com.
1.        Subject of email will be Title and Author’s Name.
2.        The body of Email
a)        A brief citation of your work
b)        Your email address
3.        Attachment
a)        Submissions must be attached to the mail as a Word (.doc) file.
b)        File title should read last name_first name_genre

(e.g., joyce_james_fiction.doc )
c)        The submission will be double-spaced, Times New Rome Font, and page number added.
4.        Submission will be in touch within one week
5.        Submission will be informed, if accepted, in two weeks

All published work will be archived online.
